ISN improves productivity by 266% with AMR solution from Körber and Locus Robotics
Hamburg, germany, October 8, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Automotive tools and equipment distributor deploys integrated automation solution at three distribution centers in the United States.
Körber and long-time strategic partner Locus Robotics, the global leader in warehouse robotics, have teamed up to deploy 49 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) across Atlanta, Fresno and Indianapolis for the Integrated Supply Network (ISN).
The solution was initially implemented in the ISN Atlanta location in just 90 days. This has already shown exceptional results. Quality, precision and picking speed have been dramatically improved – from 30 to 110 picks per hour, which equates to a productivity increase of 266%. ISN has also dramatically reduced commuting times for workers, freeing up time for them to perform other critical tasks.
“With AMRs, we have been able to significantly improve operations. The adoption of AMRs has reduced the physical stress of our workers, improving the quality of work and, as a result, increased job satisfaction. In addition, we are reinvesting the cost savings achieved with the AMR integration into higher wages for our warehouse workers, which further strengthens retention, ”says Theron Neese, Supply Chain Director at ISN.
ISN’s customer service includes same day pickup and shipment, so high efficiency is essential. The company has grown at an extraordinarily rapid pace, leading to the expansion of the size of its distribution centers. Small parcel shipments have increased from 50% before the pandemic to 80%, adding even more enforcement complexities. With heavy reliance on warehouse workers, the current climate has resulted in staffing issues with high turnover rates in the competitive job market. A long-time user of a K.Motion Warehouse Management System (WMS), ISN turned to Körber to tackle these challenges with LocusBots.
“The Locus solution enables ISN to achieve higher levels of productivity with the existing workforce, while significantly improving the overall work environment,” said Rick faulk, CEO of Locus Robotics. “Locus also helps reduce the costs of recruiting, training and retaining the workforce, as workers spend less time walking and more time collecting. And because Locus robots handle the travel and transportation of items, workers are less tired and more motivated. “
Bill ryan, CEO of Software North America, Körber Business Area Supply Chain, adds: “The deployment of Locus Robotics AMRs enables ISN to improve the efficiency of its operations, overcome labor shortages and adapt rapidly its operations to meet the rapid growth of the market. Atlanta site has shown that Kӧrber’s solution can be seamlessly integrated into existing system environments in a short period of time, without disruption. “
After a successful first phase, ISN has just launched AMRs at its Fresno site with the deployment in Indianapolis shortly. The automotive tool and equipment distributor is also expanding the use of AMR to the storage process to further improve efficiency.
ISN is North America and Europe Independent leader, wholesale distributor and private label owner of tools, equipment and supplies in the automotive industry. With almost double the relative market share, the ISN team is positioned for growth. For 35 years, ISN has strived to exceed expectations with sophisticated logistics, cutting-edge technology, strategically located warehouses and unique infrastructure. Service excellence is routine, but our true passion is innovating to anticipate the needs of our customers in a rapidly changing world.
