Here is some key information from this year’s report:
Sales generated through digital ordering platforms have more than tripled after the start of the pandemic.
A significant portion of the customers responsible for this increase in online orders were entirely new to the brand, never having ordered online or in-store before.
Many brands that have weathered the pandemic well have benefited from the closure of what the National Restaurant Association estimates at 110,000 restaurant establishments. These closures offered the surviving brands the opportunity to acquire new guests.
Customers who place take-out orders spend an average of 10% more than customers who place take-out orders, before even taking into account any taxes or delivery charges.
Brand value means more than the quality of the food. Customers who rated their food 1 star had a 27% chance of returning, while those who rated the restaurant 1 star had only a 20% chance of returning.
“What we’re seeing in the online ordering and delivery market is a complete change in the way customers interact with their brands. In fact, the pandemic has provided an opportunity for brands to build customer engagement and then continue by delivering an exceptional customer experience, ”said Andrew Robbins, CEO of Paytronix Systems, Inc.“ Brands that will be successful at the future are those that can bridge the gap between ordering and off-premises delivery and on-site meals. These brands will understand how to deliver a great group experience no matter how the guest chooses to interact. “
The report provides an in-depth look at these and other macro-trends in the online ordering landscape in 2020, including online sales, advice, reviews, and fulfillment (takeout or delivery). .
All data referenced in this report is from the Paytronix database of in-store and online transactions that took place between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020, unless otherwise noted.
